England and Argentina football teams are scheduled to face each other today in Atlanta to earn a place in the World Cup final. But the kick off time, currently set for 3pm local time (8pm BST) is at risk of being delayed, as a weather forecast suggests a storm may hit the US city at the time the teams are to hit the pitch.

The weather continues to be a talking point in this World Cup with another match at risk of being moved. BBC weather forecasts indicate that storms are expected to reach Atlanta around 12pm. Conditions should then improve for around an hour before another band of storms arrives at 2pm. The rain is currently forecast to clear by kick off , although further storms are expected to return between 4pm and 8pm.

Temperatures will hover between 28C-29C during the match but this will feel more like 39C with humidity levels predicted to be over 70%.

However, the Atlanta Stadium, AKA Mercedes-Benz Stadium, has a fully enclosed retractable roof, which will be shut for the game.

"Since the stadium is covered, the match is not weather-dependent so it will be played as scheduled," a stadium spokesperson said. "No, it won’t be delayed, the game will start as planned regardless of weather.

Although the stadium is not weather-dependent the storms could delay the two teams’ journeys from their respective hotels to the stadium, similar to the travel disruption England experienced on their way to the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City last week.
