Sick of It All frontman Lou Koller has died at the age of 59 following a battle with esophageal cancer.

The band confirmed his death with a heartbreaking statement, writing: "It’s with unbelievable sadness that we announce to our worldwide hardcore family the passing of our brother Lou Koller," adding that 2026 would have marked the band's 40th anniversary.

"We have lost a beloved friend and an iconic frontman. Lou had the power to raise everyone’s spirits at our shows with a smile and a sarcastic comment, and he won people over wherever we played, from every culture and every corner of the world."

The band went on to express gratitude to those who donated to his medical fund, saying he could "finally rest".

Koller first revealed his cancer diagnosis in 2024 after doctors discovered tumours in his esophagus.

Sick of It All cancelled their European tour as Koller underwent treatment. He was declared cancer-free after a successful round of chemotherapy, however, the disease returned just months later.

Founded in Queens, New York, in 1986, Sick of It All was built around Koller and his brother Pete, the group's guitarist. Joined by David Lamb on drums, the group eventually became one of the most influential bands in hardcore punk.

They released their debut album, Blood, Sweat and Tears, in 1989, which became a genre landmark. Sick of It All built a devoted following over the next four decades, releasing 12 studio albums.

The band's commercial peak came in the mid-1990s. Their 1994 album Scratch the Surface received critical acclaim, becoming their best-selling record.

They followed this with Built to Last in 1997, which reached No. 32 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart. Sick of It All continued releasing music into the 2010s, with their most recent album, Wake the Sleeping Dragon!, arriving in 2018.

Following news of his death, tributes have flooded in for Koller from fans and those in the industry.

German punk rock band The Donots said: "There are no words. Yo Lou, I hope that somehow and somewhere you'll know how many lives you have touched and changed forever. Such an inspiration. Thanks for being one of the most solid parts of our upbringing. Rest easy, legend."

Irish-American Celtic punk band Dropkick Murphys echoed: "All our love to the SOIA family and especially the Koller family. Rest In Peace Lou we are so glad to have shared many great memories with you. Always a class act and gentleman. Gone but NEVER FORGOTTEN."

American musician Billy Biohazard added: "My deepest condolences to you all and all that had the honor of knowing Lou! A truly great soul that we have lost! RIP friend."
