Former Grand Tour and Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond has been whacked with a £999 fine after being caught speeding twice in three weeks. The 56-year-old has now been pictured in speed camera footage, showing him behind the wheel of his Porsche in December 2025, driving 68 miles per hour in a 50mph limit in Pencraig.

Hammond was caught speeding again 20 days later in a Bentley, going 82mph in a 70mph zone on the A50 Rudhall overbridge in Herefordshire. Two prosecutions were brought against him by West Mercia Police. He was handed seven penalty points on his driving licence and ordered to pay a total of £1,771 – two fines of £333 and £666, £240 in costs and £532 victim surcharges.

More than 30 vehicles are registered to Hammond’s £2million mansion near Abergavenny in Monmouthshire.

Speeding tickets were initially sent to the Hereforshire castle the former Top Gear star purchased in 2012, and to a £1million farm in Hereford, but the letters were returned marked as “addressee gone away”, according to The Guardian.

He was eventually prosecuted for the two speeding charges and two further allegations of ignoring police letters and failing to identify himself as the driver.

Even ‘Captain Slow’ James May was busted for speeding on a 599cc Honda in Chiswick, travelling faster than a 30mph speed limit.

He tweeted: “Bought new motorcycle. Busted for speeding in the first 16 miles.”

James told MailOnline: “'It's a fair cop. I try to respect speed limits and rules in urban areas. Out on the motorways and in the country it's a bit different, but I try to abide by the rules in the city."
