Veteran French hitmaker DJ Kavinsky has been found dead in his Parisian home at 50 years old. The electropop icon, whose real name was Vincent Belorge, was best known for his chart-topping hit Nightcall, which he performed at the closing ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics. His cause of death is yet to be announced, but police have ruled out foul play based on initial investigations.

The Paris prosecutor's office said: "An inquiry into the cause of death has been opened to determine the circumstances of the death, as first responders found no suspicious elements at the scene." The DJ is often praised as one of the trailblazers of the French electropop scene for helping to grow the genre in popularity across the country.

During his impressive music career, Kavinsky embarked on worldwide tours with bands such as Daft Punk and The Rapture. His hit single Nightcall was popular within his loyal fanbase when it was first released in 2010, but it soared to global fame after it featured in the hit 2011 Ryan Gosling thriller, Drive.

He also played the hit alongside Phoeniz and Angèle at the 2024 Summer Olympics closing ceremony in his hometown of Paris. The performance sparked a huge increase in streams of Nightcall and pushed Vincent to record a new studio version featuring his fellow Olympic performers.

This version achieved a diamond certification from SNEP and reached number 3 on the French singles chart. It proved to be his final song before his unexpected passing this week. Before finding fame as a musician, Vincent initially started out as a budding actor in his teens.

But in 2005, he pivoted to music and began releasing singles. After two years of playing shows across the French capital, he released his first single, dubbed Testarossa Autodrive and soon gained a cult following.
