A nine-year-old boy is fighting for his life after paramedics restarted his heart following a serious two-car crash in Birmingham. Emergency services were called to the junction of Masshouse Lane and Shannon Road in Kings Norton at around 5.55pm on Tuesday.

An off-duty nurse and police performed CPR on the little boy, who was a passenger in one of the cars. Upon arrival ambulance staff took over resuscitation efforts and successfully restarted his heart. The nine-year-old was then blue lighted to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for further emergency care via land ambulance.

The incident prompted a huge emergency response with two ambulances, two paramedic officers, a trauma team, a critical care paramedic and a Midlands Air Ambulance all dispatched to the scene.
