Royal fans were sent into a frenzy yesterday as Princess Anne stepped out for a rare joint engagement with her younger brother Prince Edward. The Princess Royal, joined by her husband Sir Timothy Laurence, arrived at the Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow on Thursday to watch day seven of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
She arrived just moments after her younger brother, Prince Edward, and his wife, Duchess Sophie. The royal couples were seated just a few seats apart as they watched the athletics and para-athletics events. They were all in support of Team England and seemed very invested in the events.
While they may be siblings, a joint appearance of Anne and Edward is rare.
This is because the siblings, who are both working royals, tend to have very busy schedules which take them all over the UK and, occasionally, abroad.
This means that apart from big royal events such as Trooping the Colour and the Easter church service, the siblings rarely work together.
Fans were therefore sent into a frenzy yesterday when Edward and Anne were spotted at the same event.
One person wrote on X: “It’s so lovely to see the Edinburghs and the Laurences together.”
Another said: “Hope we will get more photos of them!”
This was much to the delight of the crowds and participants.
Prince Edward also stepped out at the event last week by himself. The Duke of Edinburgh visited the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) to watch some of the opening matches in the bowls - the only sport to have started on Day 0 of the Games.
The duke watched for over 90 minutes, much to the players' delight.
