The 64-year-old, who was convicted in 2024 for over 41 child abuse images and videos of boys as young as seven, entered the competition and penned a tribute to his late dad in which he talked about "our dark condition". Huw would've scooped the £750 cash prize had he won the National Eisteddfod’s Crown contest, but his effort fell short. The disgraced broadcaster was inundated with backlash, as actress Sera Cracroft slammed: "I’m very disappointed he’s done that so soon after being convicted of creating paedophilia online."

The Death Valley star, who has previously spoken out about being a victim of child abuse, fumed: "It’s far too soon for him to try and redeem himself,” adding it would've been "catastrophic" if Huw had won.

Another, who The Sun reported was a victim of Huw after receiving inappropriate messages from him, blasted: "Has this man no shame? After everything he has done, he should just disappear."

Reform UK MP Sarah Pochin also chimed in and said that by taking part, even anonymously, the paedophile had shown a total lack of self-awareness and gross insensitivity.

She continued: "Rather than trying to resurrect his career, his time would be better spent reflecting on his dreadful crimes."

According to The Sun, Huw's poem is said to have opened with the words: "A wayward son, in the torment of his hell."

This is Huw's second failed attempt to revive his career after he promised "honesty" when embarking on a new venture in June.

He joined the subscription-based publishing platform Substack and announced that his articles would "offer thoughts on matters of national and local interest" and "address mental health".

At the time, he teased what to expect, and told potential readers: "I am also ready to be unflinchingly honest about the reality of long-term mental illness."

Although the majority of creators on the platform charge for access to their work, Huw said that he has "no plans for paid subscriptions".
