Temitope Osoba has tragically died aged 40. The beloved Nigerian actress, who was best known for landing several roles in the Nollywood industry, was confirmed dead by her co-star, Alesh Sanni. On Instagram, he penned: "Couldn’t sleep last night; it is well. Rest in peace, my dearest sister. Temitope Osoba. We had an amazing time and good memories together. Till we meet again. I really dunno what to say, mehn, again. Gosh," (sic).
A family spokesperson later announced: "It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Osoba Temitope Olamidisun, who departed this life on 5th of August, 2026. Temitope was more than a public figure; she was a cherished daughter, sister, cousin, friend, and an inspiration to countless people whose lives she touched through her talent, kindness, and unwavering spirit.
They continued: "Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her and supporting her journey. During this incredibly difficult time, we kindly ask for your prayers, love, and respect for the family’s privacy as we grieve this immeasurable loss."
Addressing fans, they added: "We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming support and condolences that have already begun to pour in. Details regarding memorial and funeral arrangements will be shared by the family when appropriate. Thank you for honouring her memory and keeping our family in your thoughts and prayers."
Temitope's tragic death comes just months after she celebrated being cancer-free, as she announced her return to acting in a special 40th birthday post. Alongside a photo of herself, the late actress shared: "Surviving cancer changed me. It taught me how precious life is, how fragile moments can be, and how powerful hope truly is.
"I carry the scars, but I also carry the lessons — the courage I never knew I had, the love that held me together, and the quiet strength that kept whispering, ‘keep going.’ So today, I celebrate life in a way I never have before. I celebrate breath, sunrise, second chances, and the beauty of simply being alive.
"Turning 40 isn’t just a birthday for me… It’s a victory, a blessing, and a reminder that miracles happen. Happy 40th birthday to me — a survivor, a fighter, and a living testimony." Temitope had gone on a hiatus to undergo surgery and treatment after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2024, and had been across social media promoting her latest Nollywood release, Cost Of A Lie.
The news of her death sparked a major outpouring of tributes from heartbroken fans, as one penned: "I loved her in movies, she's one of my fave... Ahh, this is so sad." "Oh no, she fought so hard. Rest easy, darling Temitope," added another
A third commented: "Forty is far too young to pass away. Heartbreaking news for her family, friends, and the entire Nollywood industry." As another fan echoed: "May her soul rest in peace; she fought so hard." A cause of death has yet to be confirmed.
