Authorities in Spain are continuing to issue warnings as wildfires force thousands to evacuate their homes.
In a new update on Tuesday morning, Spain's Directorate-General for Traffic stated in a post on X, formerly Twitter: "We ask you to avoid traveling on roads in the western Sierra de Madrid, in the fire zones of Ávila, Toledo, and Castellón, and to stay informed through official channels.
"47 roads remain closed."
Spain's national meteorological service AEMET added that the heatwave is expected to persist with "intense heat and dryness once again pushing fire danger levels to the very high or extreme".
Such circumstances, AEMET warned, are anticipated to remain over the next few days - with fire risk predicted for the coming week.
Roads are shut in the provinces of Ávila, Castellón, Madrid, and Toledo.
The UK government is not issuing specific warnings against travelling to Spain, but does recommend vigilance.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) continues to urge Brits in wildfire-affected areas to "follow instructions from local authorities and emergency services at all times; check updates from the emergency services; and call 112 if you need emergency help".
The Met Office predicts highs of 39C in Madrid this week, with expected highs of 41C in Toledo.
Wildfires are also burning in parts of France, with around 300,000 people people forced to leave their homes across the two European nations.
