It's been an emotional week for Adam Ramsay-Peaty. Regarded as Britain's greatest swimmer, the former Olympic champion became visibly upset after securing a bronze medal in this year's Commonwealth Games. "It's hard because I know how hard I work. I know the s**t I've been through, which is no fault of my own, but it does take its toll," he said, seemingly nodding to the Peaty family feud.

"I'm not crying because it's bronze instead of gold. I'm crying because I know I am better than that. I feel like I couldn't have put any more in, and that's where it hurts, because I'm like, 'What's the point of all the metres every day? What's the point of being exhausted all the time? What's the point of having to say no to family events because you can't go to training?' It has to mean something, and for me, it has to be human excellence, and that is not excellence for me. So that's the emotion that is unfortunately coming out."

Given all of his hard work and dedication, it's understandable that Adam became tearful while talking to reporters last week, but it seems like swimming is the least of his worries these days. Alongside the fact that he's been labelled "arrogant" for his recent remarks, the Strictly star continues to deal with the fallout of a tense family feud, and it's pulling attention from his career.

Already regarded as an inspiration and sporting legend, the 31-year-old has established a truly remarkable track record, and it's one he should be proud of. What truly appears to be affecting Adam, however, is the ongoing scrutiny and attention surrounding the Peaty family feud.

A rift which hit headlines in the run-up to Adam's wedding with Holly Ramsay, the daughter of Gordon Ramsay; it was initially reported that the bride had clashed with her mother-in-law, Caroline Peaty. After fans noted that Caroline had not been in attendance at Holly's hen do last November, Adam's auntie, Louise Williams, addressed the matter on social media, declaring that Caroline was "heartbroken," while criticising Adam for his treatment of his mother.

Broadening the rift even further, several of Adam's family members, including his parents and two brothers, James and Richard, were reportedly disinvited from the wedding one month later. Adam's sister, Bethany, was one of the few relatives standing by his side at the star-studded ceremony in December.

Now, almost one year after the feud erupted, Adam has made it pretty clear that he continues to be affected by the heartbreaking dispute, and, of course, how could he not? With his wife Holly pregnant with their first child together, it's not a huge stretch to imagine that family's on his mind right now.
